The Spammers Are Back

Having re-enabled account registration for Otnews.net a couple of weeks ago, we've been fighting a constant battle with spammers. To try to limit their effects, we have decided to take a few precautionary steps:

• The minimum time between account creation and being allowed to edit the wiki has been increased to 60 minutes.
• We've added a "captcha" to various screens, including account creation. At the moment this is set to the simplest level of protection, requiring you to answer a simple bit of arithmetic in the hope that it will be enough to stem the tide of spammers without being too onerous for real users.
• At the end of November we will be automatically deleting any accounts that have never made an edit to the site. If you're a real user and want to ensure your account isn't deleted, please make some kind of edit before then - even just adding a single character to your personal page will do.
